As we all know, for a number of years the Catholic Church has been facing another “crisis” other than the headline-grabbing sexual abuse scandal – the mass exodus of young people from our faith. Recent statistics point to the fact that the median age for young people to leave the church has now dropped to 13 years of age.
Thus, it might seem logical for some to assume that the recent heartbreaking news of our church’s increasing sexual abuse scandal, might be the “last straw” or catapult that would truly open the floodgates to an even greater number of young folk leaving the church behind.
Well, here is a little ray of sunshine emanating from the dark clouds of all the recent disgraceful revelations. Instead of abandoning the faith, many of our young Catholics are digging in for the long haul and pledging to fight for reform in the church.
