Monsignor Gerald L. Vincke’s appointment as the new Bishop of Salina, Kansas was announced on June 13, 2018, just one day after the 19th anniversary of his ordination to the Priesthood. The 53-year-old Pastor of Holy Family Parish in Grand Blanc, Michigan will be installed on August 22, 2018, as the 12th Bishop of the Salina Diocese.
Commenting on his appointment during a recent news conference, Fr. Vincke said: “I want to thank the Holy Father for his confidence in me.” He also spoke about the vast difference in the size of the Salina Diocese (26,685 miles) compared to Lansing, Michigan (6,200 miles): “There’s a big, big difference,” Vincke said. “It’s going to be a lot of miles they say, but I’m looking forward to it.”
In 2016, Pope Francis designated Vincke as a “missionary of mercy.” During the Holy Year of Mercy, he was one of more than 1,000 religious-order and diocesan priests receiving a special Papal mandate to preach and teach about God’s mercy.
Bishop-designate Vincke was born July 9, 1964, the ninth of ten children in his family. He was ordained June 12, 1999, at St. Mary Cathedral in Lansing.
