Archbishop-Emeritus Daniel M. Buechlein, OSB, 79, has died at Saint Meinrad Archabbey

ST. MEINRAD, IN – Archbishop-Emeritus Daniel M. Buechlein, OSB, the fifth Archbishop of Indianapolis from 1992 until 2011, has passed away at age 79. A priest and Benedictine monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, Archbishop Buechlein passed away in the monastery’s infirmary at 12:20 AM on January 25, 2018.

He is survived by his brother, and nieces and nephews.

According to the Indianapolis Star: “Public visitation will take place Jan. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with an evening prayer at 7 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral at 1347 N. Meridian St. Visitation will continue Jan. 31 at 9 a.m. prior to an 11 a.m. funeral mass.”

“His body will then be transferred to Saint Meinrad Archabbey, 200 Hill Drive in Saint Meinrad, where visitation will continue from 8 to 9 p.m. CST. Visitation will again be open to the public Feb. 1 from 8:30 a.m. until a 10 a.m. mass, immediately followed by a committal ceremony at the archabbey cemetery.”
