Sweden’s Lund Cathedral to Host First Catholic Mass Since Reformation

“That all may be one” – John 17:21
On Sunday, October 17, 2018, the Lutheran Cathedral in Lund, Sweden will host a Roman Catholic Mass for the first time in 500 years.  St. Thomas Catholic Parish in Lund will close this fall for extensive renovations and the chaplain of the Lutheran cathedral offered a temporary place of worship to their neighbors until the repairs are completed.
In 2016, Pope Francis and leaders of the Lutheran World Federation attended a historical ecumenical event at the Cathedral to launch the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Since that time, Lutherans and Catholics in Lund have been meeting regularly in each other’s churches for ecumenical Vespers, strengthening the friendship between the two faith communities.
