Bishop Victor Manuel Ochoa of Cúcuta donated 250,000 hosts to dioceses along the Colombian-Venezuelan border to enable them to celebrate Triduum saying that he hoped to convey “the charity of Christ.”  Volunteers delivered the hosts in response to a flour shortage in Venezuela, which has stopped production of Eucharistic hosts.

Venezuela’s growing economic crisis and resultant food shortage, has also contributed to the number of refugees who are leaving their homeland crossing the border into Colombia.

In Pope Francis’ Easter Blessing, he invoked “fruits of consolation for the Venezuelan people, who, as their bishops have written, are living in a kind of “foreign land” within their own country.”
