The 2017 observance of the World Day for Consecrated Life will take place on Feb. 2 and in parishes the weekend of Feb. 4-5.
Instituted in 1997 by Pope Saint John Paul II, the celebration is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.
Cardinal Joseph Tobin, CSsR, Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations and Archbishop of Newark, states, “Our Holy Father Francis has given the Church this special opportunity to pray for all those women and men in consecrated life who have given their lives in love to God. This prayer may prompt each of us to ask, ‘How is God calling me to give of myself this day, that I might know the deeper joy of service to God and others?'”
The USCCB website has a list of resources including a general intercessions, a bulletin quote, and a downloadable prayer card to prepare for the celebration.
